Today we decided to head to the mall for some family fun. Our first stop was Auntie Anne's for a free pretzel. Luckily I had seen on FB that they were doing that today. Following that the kids got to see the Cat in the Hat who was there for a "Read across America" event. Well you can't go to the mall without loitering at the Apple Store for an hour or so playing on there toys so off we went. On our walk there we saw a Farm Bureau booth with a spinning game the kids wanted to play. So you spin the wheel, it lands on a question and depending if you get it right or not you get a gift.
Question 1: "how do you measure a horse?"
Ethan: "by your hands". CORRECT
Question 2: "what do you call a baby goat?"
All children: (blank stares)
Mom: "it is something you all are."
Ryan: "pigs!!"
Mom & Dad: (laughter - and exclaim YES! but that is not right!)
Mom: "the answer is kid." CORRECT
Question 3: "What do you call a female chicken?"
Ryan: "a hen." CORRECT
Question 4: "What do you call a baby horse?"
Brinley: "a colt." CORRECT. The answer could have been foal, colt or filly depending on specifics.
All four children left with a spray hand sanitizer and a foam farm tractor (like a stress ball). Good thing since we were off to the Apple Store where germs are on steroids!!
So after mingling at the Apple Store we decided to hit the road. Fun times at the mall, especially when everything is FREE!! You can't say that everyday!
Pictures coming!

Make New Friends
Tonights conversation with Brin.
Brinley: MOM, Grandma is going to have some new friends!
Me: What do you mean?
Brinley: There are some people moving to St. Louis!
Me: How do you know this?
Brinley: I just saw them on House Hunters!
Haha! As if all people that move to St. Louis automatically become Grandma's new BFF's. Ah, the innocence of children!!

What a Lemonhead!
Today the boys and I stayed after school to work on some laminating for Ryan's teacher. The boys LOVE to stay after and dork around with some of their friends who also stay after since their mothers are school teachers.
On this particular day, Ashton found a stash of candy. Sour candy. He ate a lot of it. Bunches and bunches. He was unsupervised.
Later he complained that his lungs hurt and pointed to his throat. He said that the candy he ate really made them hurt. I notified him that his lungs were not in his throat. I then began to say they are ton . . . and he interrupted and said, "oh, I mean my tonsticles."
As a side note, he had his "tonsticles" removed 6 years ago. What a nut! (no pun intended)

Comic Relief
Last night the Ash man was up 6 times due to night terrors. Needless to say we are all tired! Since Ashton had been complaining of a headache and sore throat we decided today was a good day to stay home. Of course, after school starts Ashton feels MUCH BETTER! I take him with me to do a few errands. While out we talk about this year's Valentine's Day plans. Here is how the convo went down:
Mom: Ashton, do you need to make a box for your Valentine's party at school?
Ashton: Hmmm, when is Valentine's Day?
Mom: February 14th - next Tuesday
Ashton: So . . . . is that when the Easter Bunny comes?

Just a Sampling!
Here is a sampling of what it is like to live with Ashton. This morning's conversation was this . . .
Ashton: "Mom, I want to go to Mi Mexico today for lunch."
Mom: "How come?"
Ashton: "Because I really want some Chinese food."
Mom: "Ummm, Ashton . . . What is the name of the restaurant? They serve MEXICAN, not Chinese!!"
Ashton: "Oh . . . "

Funny, Funny
I needed to jot down a few of the funny moments from today.
Brinley (while at a horse farm) - "that horse has green poop like me!"
Ryan - "When you have a sprained ankle you have to go to the hospital.
Ethan - "No you don't Ryan, you need to get in a hot tub" (no clue where he got that idea!)
Ryan - "I wish I could turn into a horse!"

Today's Funny Quotes
Most days someone in my family says something VERY FUNNY to me. Today I had several. Here are the top 2 from today.
1. "I would like to drive a truck but I don't think I'm ugly enough" This was said by Matt while eating lunch at a Wendy's truck stop. Haha. He went on to talk about his deceased grandpa who was a truck driver. He said, "I bet grandpa had all the chicks after him since he was a good looking truck driver".
2. While at doctor's office waiting for Ethan's shots . . . "Mom, I'm going to go talk to those ladies back there and tell them I would like to have a word with Dr. Oliver". Ashton (8)

Boy or Girl?
This week Brinley brought home a Read-a-thon book log that she is participating in for school. The class with the most books read by April 14th receives $75 for their teacher to spend at the upcoming Scholastic Book Fair. Brinley is super excited! She has her paper almost completely filled up. This morning she brings me a stack of books. The first one we decide to read is called The Easter Bunny is Missing! by Steve Metzger. While reading the book, Brinley asked if the Fox was a boy or a girl. I said that I didn't know, but would assume it was a boy. She starred at the page for a bit which pictured many animals and then she said, "Mom, they are all boys." I asked her how she knew that and she said, "because none of them have eyelashes."

Friday Funny
Please join me in remembering YET ANOTHER great icon of the entertainment community.
R.I.P. Pillsbury Doughboy
The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection and trauma complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71. Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin. Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Butterworth, Hungry Jack, the California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Captain Crunch. The grave site was piled high with flours.
Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and lovingly described Doughboy as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded. Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times, he still was a crusty old man and was considered a positive roll model for millions.
Doughboy is survived by his wife Play Dough, three children: John Dough, Jane Dough and Dosey Dough, plus they had one in the oven. He is also survived by his elderly father, Pop Tart.
The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.
(okay, so he "died" November 2008) so I'm a little late. Oh well!)

Mom: Yes???
Ash: He was the QB for Utah.
Mom: Call Dad and talk to him about this. (chuckle, chuckle)
Ethan: I thought Brigham Young was a prophet
Mom: Ethan, shhhhhh!

Humor Me, Monday!
Today's dialogue with Ashton . . .
Ashton: "Mom, did I get anything in the mail today?"
Me: "Nope"
Ashton: "I should be getting some packages since my birthday is coming up . . . . "
Me: {silently thinking} "Yep, probably any day since your birthday is right around the corner (Dec 3rd)!" haha

Bummm . . . her!
Today while driving to Matt's work Brinley asked if dinosaurs have bums. I told her they did when they roamed on the earth. Then Ryan piped in to let Brinley know that everything has a bum except for Barbie Mermaid Tale. There you have it . . .

Treats Anyone?
We arrived home from a very long vacation tonight. While unpacking, Ryan asked where the Neosporin was. I told him in the toiletry bag. He replied, "toilet treats? That's gross!" Funny kid!

Tuesday Giggles
Today, like most days, one or more of my children say something funny. Actually it is usually an all day affair of funnies.
Tonight after the birthday festivities Brinley asked if she could eat one of the birthday candles. I told her "no" because they were made of wax. She replied, "ear wax?"
Later, I asked if she needed to go potty. She replied, "I don't want to pee on the potty because I will fall in. Sharks live in there and will bite me!"

Monday Funny!
Many of you know our friend Cindy Popp Smyly. If so, you know she is HILARIOUS!!! Apparently the funny gene has been passed down to her kiddos. Her facebook status yesterday was this:
Cam's (preschool age) blessing on the food last night: Dear Heavenly Father -- please bless that our cars and houses won't explode. Bless that nobody will die or get their eyes poked out. Please bless that the vegetables Mom made will turn into bubblegum. Bless that we don't get diarrhea from Mom's food -- Amen

Guiness Book of KNOWLEDGE

Today Ashton stayed home from school. He actually was sent home early yesterday. He had a fever. Of course, shortly after returning home "said" fever disappeared. Anywho . . . today he came with me to work. Since my job consists of driving, driving and more driving Ashton and I had a lot of time to talk. Talking with him is FUN!
So to begin, I asked for more clarity in the Flying Squirrels department. He clarified that there WERE only two, but 1 was shot and now there is one. And that ONE lives in China, which was later changed to Japan. When I asked him today again, where he learned of this he said, "in my Math book." Hmmm, Math has changed in the past 30+ years. Who knew?
On to next subject - the Sun. Today the sun was shining - for a minute. During that minute Ashton said, "if you get too close to the sun you will melt . . . and if you melt you will have no funeral." I said, "yep!"
There you have it - another day with Ashton and another day with laughs!
